Re-sizing images and moving them around on Mac

Hi

Please can someone help me! I have been trying for the last few days in vain to achieve something that sounds quite simple. I am trying to do the following...

- Resize an image from i-Photo to make it really small - so I need to reduce the size proportionally horizontally and vertically. I found how to do this by saving and viewing it in preview but it doesn't look like it would print out in the same small size. I need it to print the tiny version

- I also need to be able to move the image around the screen so I can position it so when I print it it prints at the top of the page and doesn't waste a load of paper by printing in the middle

- I also need to be able to rub out/ erase any other images. I tried this using the paintbrush tool on i-photo but because some of the images I want to remove of big and black it just creates more black!

I know all of these things can be done really easily in MS Paint. Do I need some kind of other software other than i-photo and preview? I have a MacBook Pro that was bought this year. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE can someone advise me how I do this.

Thanks in anticipation of some help!

Do you have iLife? Open Pages, create a blank page layout document, drag your image from iPhoto and drop it on the new document. You can then resize it by grabbing a corner of the image and dragging. You can also click inside the image and position it anywhere you want on the page. Printing is pretty much WYSIWYG.

Hi, Thanks so much for your help! Thats great.

I don't suppose you can help me on another query I have....I also need to invert the colours so eg a black image on a white background becomes a white image on black. And also print out in this way (and save in this way if possible). Any ideas?

I don't think I have iLife in answer to your question

The Pages app is part of iWork, not iLife.
iLife is the name of the software suite that comes on all Macs. It includes iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD, iWeb, and Garageband. And, iLife does not include Pages (which is part of the extra cost iWork suite).

Even if "it doesn't look like it would print out in the same small size", you can always try a test print to see what you get..

Still the best photo manipulation on the Mac - Graphic Converter.

Hi

Is there a free download alternative to Graphic Converter that would allow me to invert the colour? I tried Paintbrush but that doesn't seem to have it.

Thanks!

If you want the good stuff, and free, too - then there's GIMP
http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/10322178

It can be considered a replacement for Photoshop, and, again, is a free download. You do need to have x11 installed, which is either already installed on your Mac, or is a simple optional install from your OS X installer DVD.

Paintbrush is not really for photo editing, other than simple image changes, or drawing on an existing image. Color adjustment is a different kind of use, and not that common.

Photoshop Elements would do that.
Search for other photo/color manipulation software - there are likely others.
There's Acorn - http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/33140
or Pixelmator - http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/10826255
