Real Player cause unwanted Safari page

Until (foolishly) agreeing to update to a 'newer' version of Real Player the other week when prompted on the screen I had no problem opening Real Player links from the Safari browser. I've asked Real Player for their technical support but they don't know the answer. I've completely un-installed Real Player and tried downloading it again but to no avail.

This is what SHOULD be happening (and has in the past):

1. You click on a broadcast link within a Safari page.

2. Real Player opens and puts its window 'strip' on top of the Safari page. The strip can then be moved around to read the Safari page underneath.

NOW, this happens:

1. You click on a broadcast link within a Safari page.
2. Real Player opens in the Dock, but at the same time Safari produces a blank white page.
3. You then have to go back a page to get the website back.
4. Then you have to click on Real Plyer in the Dock to bring its window up.

All this is extremely irritating as I now have to click five times instead of the previous one. Can anyone help as it's driving me nuts!

Thank you.

Notes: OS 10.4.7. program previously unistalled properly with proper uninstall software.Real Player version appears to be the same as the previous one. The version of Safari is the one current at purchase date (september 2005). There was NO problem before!!
