Reality check

Recently scrapped out a friend's old Powerbook G3 with a 1 year old Samsung 160Gig ATA HD. I now own the HD, and want to get an external enclosure for it.

Amazon has several in the $4-$7 bracket. All I'd need is USB connection.

Any reason that these off brand enclosures wouldn't suit their purpose? Any reason to opt for the $50-$60 enclosures?

Remember, this is a ATA (PATA), NOT a newer SATA drive.

Huh, everyone's been quiet recently?
I see no reason why a generic one wouldn't work. So if you still are wondering which one to get, pick one of those generic ones with a pretty case or some other criteria. I've got still some old cases that were also whatever they had available at Fry's, so I've never opted for a specific brand for them.

I do plan on the cheap one, just waiting until I need something else from Amazon, as the shipping would likely be higher than the enclosure if that's all I ordered. :)
