Realplayer plug-in woes...

Barking at the moon.
My God why can't people just use Quicktime??!? ;)

Windows Media files only worked in Internet Explorer. For some reason, I can't get Realplayer files to work in either IE or Chimera. I'm using the latest Chimera build (just downloaded it today) and the latest Realplayer (just downloaded it today). This is weak .. what's going on?

Did you happen to delete the RealOne Player after installing it?

I did by accident because they use it as the installer as well and leave it on the desktop after the install is over.

After pulling it out of the trash and putting it in my Applications folder, RealPlayer media then played in Mozilla, Chimera and IE.

I tested it at http://www.atomfilms.com

Yup, doesn't work. It shows a box that says 'click here to get the plug-in' but I click it and brings me to a Netscape site that says there are no plug-ins available.

Have you tried deleting the player and reinstalling it? According to Real, you just drag it into the trash to uninstall and then unarchive the download and click on it to reinstall.

should I delete the files in Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ and the files in Library/Preferences/com.RealNetworks.data/ as well?

i was looking at that. My Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ folder happens to be empty. Yours isn't?

Library/Preferences/com.RealNetworks.data/ folder contains what appears to be a software development kit.

Uninstalling it by their directions doesn't appear to do anything other than delete the app and replace it with another. You don't go through the original install procedure again.

There is no need to uninstall and reinstall RealOne Player for Mac OS X. Rather, you can just hold down control and shift when launching the player, and it will toss all of its preferences and reset itself to a freshly-installed state.

All of the code for RealOne Player for Mac OS X is inside of the application package. When you run RealOne Player, it will make an alias to its browser plugin in the system's /Library/Internet Plugins folder (but the actual plugin is still inside of the RealOne Player package.) So uninstalling the player really just involves dragging the RealOne Player icon to the trash.

A non-beta release of RealOne Player for Mac OS X is available from real.com now, too. The browser plugin generally works fine with IE 5.2 and Netscape 7, though Chimera may still be working out some bugs.
