Rebuilding Mirrored RAID ... who is being erased?

Hi.

I've got a PowerMac as a data server with a mirrored RAID. One of the disks failed (good idea to mirror them, he he) but now I try to insert a new disk instead.

When doing so I try to drag the freshly added disk into the RAID (in Mac OS X Disk Utility). But then I have to update and comes up a warning telling me that "when you add a disk to the RAID set, all of the files are erased." (from Disk Utility Help)

My problem is that I am not sure of what they mean by this sentence ... Which files are being erased? The ones on the disk we are adding on the RAID or will the whole RAID be formated/zeroed?

While I assume they mean that the data on the newly added disk will be erased (and not the data from the whole RAID), I don't want to take any risks. So I ask you: Which are the files being erased? The ones from the new disk? or the ones from the whole RAID?

Thank you,
Pierre.
