Does anyone know how to increase the number of documents and applications listed in the recent items apple menu item under OSX?

Any idea how to turn recent items off? Didn't see that option. I'm paranoid

if you don't have MacOS X 10.1
open the file
com.apple.recentitems.plist

in the folder Preferences
in the folder Library
in your home directory

open with TextEdit

copy the rows 7 -11 and paste it after:

and now you got ten insted of five resenappl.

(and of cours the same with resentdoc.)
