Recent OS x update: strange keyboard behaviour

Since downloading the most recent update to Mac OS X 10.4.11 (8S2167), the first character typed in an active document or in a cell on a web page does not appear and the keystroke has to be repeated. It's not just my imagination. Has anybody else experienced this keyboard glitch?

I haven't noticed anything like this on my Mac (iMac G5, 10.4.11). Have you tried the usual process of repairing permissions through Disk Utility or verifying the hard drive through the Repair Disk option in Disk Utility to see if anything is wrong?

Also, which program specifically does it happen in? Excel? Numbers? OpenOffice Calc?

No, I haven't tried the steps you suggest, but the last time there were keyboard issues (when the computer was new, keystrokes would sometimes repeat continually until I unplugged the usb), it was cleared by an operating system update. The programmes I am using currently are back and forth between Word, iTunes and Excel (I am typing a transcription that has been provided as wave files). Also, in websites, such as this one, when I am logging in: the first keystroke does not register and has to be reentered. Weird and annoying. Thanks for your suggestions. I'll try them when I am not madly trying to meet this deadline. E.

This behavior is common to Leopard driven MacBooks. Is it possible that Apple has made a backport of the bug to 10.4?

Aha, so I am definitely not imagining it. Now, what do I have to do to find a downloadable fix-it? I have found notifying Mac of the problem virtually impossible, so do I wait until they notice it themselves and hopefully include a fix in the next update?

Many thanks!
Elizabeth

Elisabeth,

a MacBook with Leopard is automatically updated to cure the problem. I don't hope I'm right and Apple has introduced a new bug. I they have, they should fix it with the next automatic update.

Just out of curiosity, IS there any way of getting through to Mac to tell them that they've messed up, are slowing down my work and causing significant frustration? Or are they protected by an impenetrable wall?

Cheers,
Elizabeth
