Reformat not working...

i would like to reformat my ibookG4(tiger - 10.4.2) i have the disks to do so and been told what to do but it doesnt seem to be working...

ive been told to do:
put the disk into the drive
click restart on the installl icon

then the install window should pop up on reboot but this doesnt happen just the window of the cd's info is still there....

Put the CD in and restart while holding the C key down.

its not working...i'm holding c ive been told to try holding down alt that doesnt work aswel...!!

Where did the install discs come from and what version of OS X are they?

they came with the notebook..
(ibook G4 Mac os X install disc1)
(mac os version 10.4.2)
(disc version 1.0)

Try cleaning the discs.
Could be dirty or bad.

if all this doesnt work shall i just take it in to an apple store..

At the Apple Store, they can provide basic support for free, and hardware support at a charge (unless the computer is under a year old or if you have AppleCare). Bring the disks if you go there.
