Refresh problem in Finder

Folks,

I'm a relative newbie to the world of Mac OS. I have a Macbook Pro which came preloaded with 10.4 (I think), and later updated to 10.5.x. Recently, after a family vacation, I downloaded 700+ photos and movies from my digital camera to the Macbook. I edited some of the photos in Picasa (mostly rotating them 90 deg cw or ccw) and saved them to the hard disk. However, the icons in Finder don't reflect these changes. They still show up as they were before the edits. In Picasa, the changes are shown correctly. Also, in Finder, when I double-click on one of those photos, it shows me the correct photo, viz. with the changes.

I downloaded and installed some kind of AppleScript-based plugin called 'Refresh Finder' (I think), which allows me to create a small button in the Finder toolbar. If I press this button, the Finder window should refresh its contents. However, I find that all the icons except the ones I changed are getting refreshed.

I have tried everything else to trigger Finder to update itself, but to no avail. To me, this looks like a very trivial feature that has not been implemented in Mac OS. I'm going nuts trying to figure out why Finder cannot display the correct thumbnail.

Can somebody please help me?

I am really going to blow your mind. You are running into a picture that YOU inserted. So unless you refresh that picture it will remain the same.

you should read the book Switching to the Mac: The Missing Manual, Leopard Edition. After this easy to read book you should almost become an OS X veteran.
Thanks, Satcomer. I will certainly look for the book you have recommended and try and master the Mac OS.

I have a follow-up question about a couple of sentences that I would request you to clarify. What did you mean exactly by "You are running into a picture that YOU inserted. So unless you refresh that picture it will remain the same. "? What does "running into" mean? And, how does one refresh a single picture? When I right-click on the file, I don't see any option to refresh it. Also, if I select that file in Finder, I don't see any menu options to refresh it.

Thanks again for your assistance.

to change an icon on a file/application do a 'Get Info' (command button+i) on the file and in the top left window of the Get Info popup you can click on the icon and paste in a custom icon or revert to the system default by hitting the 'delete key'. The procedure is explained here. This is what I meant.

And once you've mastered this technique, just do it again for the other 699 photos...(ouch)
