Refurbished - bad or okay?

Lots of thoughts and they are all good. Brand spanking new in every consumer conceivable way and with regular full warranty. Even eligible for AppleCare. The only thing you don't get is Apple's slick packaging, refurbs arrive in brown boxes.

Not usually! :)

I have bought refurbs in the past and they have been fine!

I've heard that quite a few refurbs are actually "returns" from people that couldn't get them to work through lack of understanding and sent them back as faulty.

You cannot imply that a refurb is a used system. They are Macs that have been returned to Apple for any reason. They are repaired (if needed), tested (supposedly) and sold as refurbs. They have already been provided as a new system, so cannot be sold as a new system. Not the same as a used system. I think that Apple would tell you that a refurb system needs to pass the same appearance criteria as a new system. And, I think you would be right to have doubts about a system that you just purchased (new, or refurb) that doesn't pass your own appearance standards.
