reinstalling OS 9.1 after X?

Hello all, I'm a recent convert to the platform so please excuse the ignorance. My OS 9.1 installation has failed - preferences reports "no startup volume capable of running classic" and I get a floppy with the question mark when I reboot into 9.1

Is there any way to reinstall 9.1 given that both system folders (9 and X) currently reside on the same partition?
