Reinstalling OS 9/Classic (Clean Install)

Well, I've been running Jaguar for a year without Classic installed. I get Panther today, and suddenly have to run a firmware update to install it. Problem is, the firmware update is an OS 9 only installer.

So, I need to reinstall OS 9. When I boot from the installation disc, it tells me I can't install it on the selected drive. It will allow me if I choose to perform a clean install, however.

My question in, what does this install do? Does it format the drive or does it just replace all "Classic" system files?

I really need some help with this. Any is definitely appreciated.

Thanks,

A clean install simply installs OS 9 to a new System Folder instead of upgrading your old Classic system, which it can't do if you don't have Classic. You can perform the clean install without worries; just be sure to select the option to update or install OS 9 drivers.
