Remembering save destination

New to OSX after years of classic... OS9 would remember where last file was saved and default to that same location for the next one... OSX seems to have to be told each time (either specifically or using 'favourites') - time consuming and frustrating if saving a lot of files into the same folder... Is there any way around this...

Thanks in advance...

Default Folder X is a good tool that does this and more, there's other utilities that do this as well, check at versiontracker.com for this and others. OS X 10.3 (Panther) now has some of what you want in Save As windows, such as easily selecting recently used folders, and also showing whatever you have in your SideBar for other choices, easy to use, perhaps not as quick as some other tools that you may use.
