When i open the Sharing panel in System Preferences, Then select the Remote Login Box.. The box is checked and then it fades.. When i quit System Preferences then open it again, The box is no longer checked. How can I fix this?

- Do the other sharing services start up okay?

- Do you have an active network connection?

- Have you installed any system level software such as Fink or had any recent system software updates fail to load for some reason?

- Have you made any modifications to the Firewall, the inetd or sshd configurations?

- Check the Console.log (Applications:Utilities:Console) for any error messages that come up *while* you try to start the remote access.

OpenSSH would definitely be what is disrupting it. OpenSSH is a replacement/update for the sshd daemon that comes with Mac OS X and is used for remote logins.
Did you follow the installation directions for OpenSSH carefully?
You may not be able to start OpenSSH from the Sharing Pane, or perhaps it is set to start with the system. Either way, you will have to follow the documentation for OpenSSH to see how it is meant to be installed, started and stopped.

BTW: Does "tail background task" mean anything to anyone?
