OpenSSH would definitely be what is disrupting it. OpenSSH is a replacement/update for the sshd daemon that comes with Mac OS X and is used for remote logins.
Did you follow the installation directions for OpenSSH carefully?
You may not be able to start OpenSSH from the Sharing Pane, or perhaps it is set to start with the system. Either way, you will have to follow the documentation for OpenSSH to see how it is meant to be installed, started and stopped.
BTW: Does "tail background task" mean anything to anyone?
