removing a hard drive

tired
i'm working on one of the middle-aged power-macs. its a dual-450 if that tells you anything.

anyway, i'm trying to take the hard drive out and give it a new one. problem is, it is somehow connected to the bottom of the casing. is there some trick to getting it out or what?

help?

HD should be in a U-shaped bracket. There is a screw at the front of the bracket (HD connector end) underneath the connectors, remove that screw and the bracket can be lifted out, then you'll see how to remove the HD from that bracket. (That U-shaped bracket allows you to add (stack) a 2nd HD very easily) Just set the jumpers as a Slave on the added HD and attach both the second ribbon connector and a power connector, and start the Mac. Voila! more space!

Delta,
You got me confused.
cf,
There are so many different kinds of middle aged Power Macs. Can you tell us:
is it a tower or a box under the monitor? There should be a model name on the front of it. What does that say?

From this, I will be able to tell you how to get that baby out.
p.s. I am assuming that you already have opened the case.
