Rendezvous now called Bonjour

er....yeah. The name makes no sense (at least not in the way that "rendezvous" did), nor does the name change make sense considering the inevitable confusion it will cause.

Was there a conflict over the name? Some other product/technology? Certainly they can't be doing it simply for marketing, and making the name "clearer"...?

I wonder if this was the catalyst TigerDirect used to bring a lawsuit against Apple. Kind of stupid if you ask me, especially since they did this right before the launch.

Regardless, it is good to see that when it's merited Apple responds accordingly. :)

Reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally old news, though. Have you all slept through Tiger's development and this very forum here? ;)

I've got to admit, I haven't read the Tiger forum much before now. I guess I almost thought it'd be like spoiling the surprise... :D

I did, however, read Apple's own Tiger promotions, and didn't notice anything about Bonjour. Ah well.

They did mention it, but I guess you could've read over it, mostly because they just don't use the term Rendez-vous anymore (since they can't, obviously, for legal reasons). I guess we'll adapt to this new term. Although "bonjour printing" etc. just doesn't get over my lips as easily. It sounds very wrong, actually. ;)

Ugh. "Bonjour" sucks. Rendezvous was a great name. Apple should have spent more $ and just bought the rights or something.

And, although both words are French, at least Rendezvous doesn't SOUND as French. There's no "J" (ZSH) sound in English. Bad marketing.
