Rendezvous Printer

Umm, somehow this post ended up in Networking instead of peripherals. Can a moderator move it? Thanks!

Not sure if this is the right place to post, and I couldn't find anything about this, so I'm hoping someone can help.

I purchased a cheap USB print server by AirLink+ (side note: if you're looking for a cheap Airport Extreme card, they make stuff that works). I wasn't expecting much from it, but when I plugged it in and attached everything, the printer showed up in Rendezvous.

Well, it sorta showed up; when I selected it, I only got the generic Canon printers from gimp-print, and not the actual printer (an i950) that shows up if I hook the printer up to an Airport Express. Is there any method of adding printers to Rendezvous so that I can select it? If there is, this was a great $10 purchase!

Thanks in advance.

Well, have you experienced any problems printing with the default drivers ?

Drivers do just what their name implies : they drive hardware. Since your printer is physically attached to the print server, THAT is the hardware actually driving the printer, not your wireless computer. I don't think you'd have any issues, unless you picked something really wrong.

I'd be interested in a follow-up...

Well, when I select one of the drivers, I can print, but my print quality is varied, and the print size is often completely wrong. And the main feature that I want (borderless photo printing) is not available at all. So it seems like this is a non-starter for me. I haven't been able to find good reports of getting the i950 to work using CUPS/gimp-print, so I guess I'll leave it on the Airport Express. Anyone want a $10 print server that supports Rendezvous? :)

That's too bad, but now that I think of it, the problems you experience could very well be due to the print driver. I'm not completely sure how Rvz printing works to begin with so I don't want to overstep my technical boundaries :)

PM me with a link to your print server (some info), I may actually be interested !
