Replacement Keyboard

Hi Everyone,

Recently, thanks to my cat, a few keys popped off of my iBook's keyboard. At first it was ok to manage with but now it has become problematic to type. Knowing I need to replace the keyboard; I shopped around on the Internet last night and found a new iBook G4 keyboard for $12.00 from a PowerBook specialty store. But the only problem is, it was out of stock. :(

But they have an iBook G3 keyboard for the same price. I was wondering if I could use that keyboard with my computer?

Thanks,

AF06

No, you have to use the correct replacement for your model. There's about 6 different keyboards for the various models of Ibooks, and just the iBook G4 has 2 or three. The problem is, that each has a slightly different length and position of the ribbon cable, and you won't get the wrong one to work.

You should make sure that you get one for a 12-inch (if that is what you have). The actual Apple part number for that one is 922-6901.
The difference with the older ones, the keyboard is semi-translucent. The newer ones have opaque keys. I think any 12-inch G4 ibook keyboard will work, but may have a different appearance.

Ok, thanks for clearing that up for me. I still don't understand why I can't use an iBook G3 (White) keyboard on mine but I guess I will have to take your word for it. :)
