Replacing HDD on a PowerMac G4

Hi,

This might be a stupid questing but I have to ask...
Is it ok to replace the original ATA HDD of my PowerMac G4 with any kind of ATA HDD?
The reason for asking is that the original IBM Deskstar HDD has the following text on its label:

"Apple HDD Firmware"

I've never seen that text on regular ATA HDD labels before and I'm not really experienced in the Mac world.
Does the HDD's have to be loaded with a special Apple firmware?

Thanks!

'Does the HDD's have to be loaded with a special Apple firmware?' - no.

However, depending on the specific model PowerPC PowerMac G4 you have - may limit the size of the hard disk drive, hdd, you will purchase and install. That size limitation being approximately 128 GB. Any hdd greater than 128 GB installed, will be formatted to around 128 GB.

I have a question along these lines....I have the MDD867 Dual G4 came with a 60 gig drive. The Drive is located on the 133 bus I believe. I have addes a 160 gig drive with no issues however I want to add a 250 gig drive that I recently got. This means that I have to move the orginal. Can I move the 60 gig drive to the 100 bus without any issues?

I want to use this new 250 gig drive as my boot drive for when Leopard OS comes out. Can I use it as a storage device now and just install the new OS over any files I have or will it be totally wiped out when installing the new OS? Would it be easier if I just clone my current drive and transfer that and install the new OS as an upgrade instead?

Thanks
