resetting safari

i've been having problems with my safari quitting unexpectedly. it isn't crashing...it just quits.

i've called applecare and they suggested i reset safari. however, i can't seem to get a straight answer from them regarding my keychain. i believe that i would lose all my logins and passwords, correct? if so, can i just back-up a copy of my keychain, reset safari and then copy the old keychain back over?

thanks.

so, i did what you suggested and so far things have been okay. except tabbed browsing. i've enabled tabbed browsing but things keep opening in new windows instead of new tabs.

is it possible that onyx has some setting that screwed this up?

Do you have the correct preference set for that behavior? Deleting the "com.apple.safari.plist" file resets any preferences to their default setting, which could be causing this.

Check Safari's preferences under "General" at the bottom to ensure that "Open links from applications:" is set to "in a new tab in the current window"

I just wanted to tell you about my situation.

I almost accidentally click to reset the Safari instead of clicking the empty cache. This is a dangerous path because "Reset Safari" and "Empty Cache" are so close in the same menu column. Why the Apple designers made that way? It made me really so mad about that?

I do not want this happen, and even I am not interested to backup my bookmark all the times.

"Reset Safari" will not erase your bookmarks.

"Reset Safari" empties the cache, clears the history, and deletes all cookies. Probably a shorter path to enlightenment than we previously said -- no need to do all those manually, go ahead and choose "Reset Safari" and all of the above will be done automatically.
