Resizing the dock

This is probably old news, but I just noticed that you can resize the dock by clicking and dragging the vertical separator bar in the dock. That's much easier than opening the dock preferences.

An interesting variation is to hold down the option key. It seems to limit the size of the dock icons to multiples of either 16 or 32 pixels, I not sure which. I would guess that having the dock icons at a multiple of 16 or 32 would give a very slight boost to system performance for refreshing the dock.

Any idea how to add more vertical bars into the dock? I've seen screenshots of it. So you can divide up the icons...like browsers, graphics apps...etc...
