resolution reduced when attached to an email

When I attach a pdf or jpeg file to an email, the resolution of that file is automatically reduced.
What do I need to do to keep the resolution?
 
there is a drop down menu, bottom right hand corner of the email message that let's you select file size/resolution.

FWIW, inline display of PDFs is at lower resolution. This does not affect the file. Are you talking about the inline display of the image or the file that is transmitted to the recipient?
