Resovling A Name To A IP Address Under Classic

Hope someone can help, I'm trying to resolve a name to a IP address this works fine in OS X but when I try this in the classic environment it fails.

Just so you know what I have done I have edited the /etc/host file with this entry 123.com resolved to 192.168.1.100 you can ping this fine in the terminal.

Then I created a text file called Hosts which I placed in the preference folder in the ~/Library/Classic/preferences.

The file reads 123.com A 192.168.1.100

When you use MACPING it does not work :(

Any ideas folks??

This may be a job that Classic cannot do. Probably relies on a function available through Open transport, which doesn't load in Classic. Name to IP should work if booted to OS 9, but probably not through the Classic environment.

Instead of using /etc/host, do the same thing in NetInfo Manager... Classic should honor those entires.

I have also tried using NetInfo to resolve the domain but this again works in os x but not in os 9.

I have managed to resolve this by getting hold of a os 9 mac selecting the host file and then copying that system folder to the os x machine this works.

Thanks for the suggestions.
