restoring previous system apps

I had some issues with my system recently and so I decided to re-install osx completely from scratch, I backed up my old Users directory onto an external drive and then wiped my internal HD and reinstalled 10.5

Now I am up and running again, with a fresh start I would like to get my mail back up and running, and a few other apps - whats the best way of doing this without fully re-installing my old /Users directory? I guess some apps are easy such as PTgui which is just an icon under Apps. but what about mail? Obviously I would like all my old emails to come back too...

Since you only want to move the Mail and not the entire user account you can basically go to the Library/Mail and Mail Downloads and drag them to the new install. Also go into the pref folder and get com.apple.mail.plist so you don't have to reenter all your info.
