retrieve sound output and play sound trough terminal

For a project I am going to build an application that needs to play sounds on multiple sound outputs.

I was wondering if MacOS X got standard terminal request to do this. Till now I couldn't find something about it. Probably I need secondary software to do this.

So I was wondering if someone knows good software to do this.
