Return iBook and pay $149 ????

Hey!!

I just bought my iBook 600MHz Combo Drive from the colorado apple store. I still have two days to return it for $149 open box fee.

Now, since I've learned that the new iBooks are coming out soon, should I take advantage of the $149 return? I really like the possible outlook of a faster iBook, but how much more do you think the new base prices for new iBooks will be?

Is it worth it to return my iBook and wait?

I am going on a business trip on May 20 and would like to have a computer by then. If Apple announces a new iBook by then,.... will that mean that the devices will be available in the Apple Stores?

ARRRGGGG!!!! What should I do????

Well, rumors have it that the release will be "soon" - I'd kill to know when EXACTLY!!
So,... I guess powerpage.org has a rumor posted.....

Well, I have the iBook with the 12.1 inch display and I'm pretty happy with it. The thing with the larger display is it's bulky and it's the same resolution as the smaller models (1024 x 768). It would've been nice if they upped it a little bit at least.

Hmmm, this is a tough call, Macrumors.com is reporting they will be out really soon. They are also reporting so amazing specs that almost seem ridiculous. I think with this recent anouncement about a minumum of 32mb of ram for Jaguar to use the Quartz extreme engine, the prospect of this new model having a new graphics system is very promising. Apple is hopefully not going to try and sell hardware that cant optimise one of the major features they are promoting in the next version of OS X. However I guess they are kind of doing that now with the G3. Considering the fact that we havent seen a new iBook since last september, I am anticipating they will be released the same day Apple releases their new Rackmount server which is on the 14th. I would strongly suggest the trade-up, if these predictions are true, the next iBook will be a real steemer!!!

32MB is NOT required. 32MB is recommended. Only an AGP NVidia card or an AGP ATi Radeon card is REQUIRED.

it can, but it won't be nearly as effective as it could (should) be. Personally, I sold my iBook 500 on eBay about 2 months ago. Not because I wasn't impressed with it, the 'book was by far the nicest computer I have ever used, however Apple has seemes to have ditched the G3.

I'm currently waiting until the end of the summer to see what happens with the iBook line. Unless they get a G4 and a 32 mb video 'card' (which is unlikely) I will be getting an iMac. I just can't see spending upwards of 1500 bones on a brand-new piece of out-dated hardware. :(

Quatz Extreme will work with any AGP-based Apple-standard NVidia card, or any AGP-based ATi Radeon card (standard or after-market), no matter how much VRAM the card has. However, 32Mb is RECOMMENDED for optimal performance, meaning you'll see the biggest boost with any of the above mentioned cards that have 32MB of VRAM or more.

You will see Quartz Extreme in action with one of the above mentioned cards with LESS than 32MB of VRAM, just not as much as you would if you had 32MB or more.
