Rumour: iBook goes G4 AND G3

I really really hope this is true. I own an an old blueberry iBook and I plan to get a new one before the year's end.

Makes sense to put a G4 in while they are at it, they will have to get a new video-card anyways to get Quartz Extreme working...
I believe it.

makes me wanna wait until MWNY to see what happens... but im itchin
to buy a ti 667 now :)

i dont know what to do....

it would make plenty sense to put a G4 in the iBook, however the addition of a G4 will most likely bring along the addition of more wieght, and possibly more dimensions ( a thicker iBook).

However, I also think that Apple has moved away from the "we have the slimmest laptop" routine, and are moving toward more power punching machines. With the PC laptops hovering close to the 2 GHz, its nail bitting time, and that MHz myth isn't working for apple.

Will it would be about time for a G4 iBook... But I think it'll only be in the upper end of the line.

I was hoping and waiting for a G4 iBook update a while back, I finally caved and gotten myself a DVI TiBook 667MHz. It's really quite an amazing machine. Remarkable powerful and portable. Ultimately, I am glad I switched to the TiBook - gotta love the GPU and video spanning.

I'm on the same boat! :)
I want something cheaper than the Ti book, but i want the power of a G4 - even if it's slightly slower than the Ti Book...

Only thing making me wait is the lack of something called Money! LOL :p :D

i don't think they'd put a G4 into the iBook until they release the G5...

why?

to keep the consumers and professionals apart

now, even though that brings the iMac into the fold, it's a consumer machine with a g4, i still think they'll wait. if you get the g4, you'll want more complex tasks, you'll need better graphics card and higher resolutions, something that would definitely raise the cost of their affordable portables.

once they release the G5's, the prices of G4's will go down, therfore making it more feesable for them to put a, say, 800MHz G4 iBook and a 1.2 GHz G4 in the iMac (or higher, considering how high the new G5's will max out on their first trip into the world)

well, that's my $.02

The G5 will have to wait for early 2003. Although it's perfectly possible that all books won't see an update until then, rumours (and not just *some* of them) state that the iBook G4 will happen before the G5. There's still the possibility that the Titanium might get a 7460 at a much higher MHz rate, then there's no problem identifying 'consumer' and 'pro' lines. I think Apple should make the best available technology available to its users.

If you ever think that the latest machine you bought gets too old too fast, think about what this means for the NEXT machine you'll buy. The speed difference will be bigger. That's a nice thing, too, n't it? You don't have to buy sooner, just better.

What I expect next January (yea, i just used that G4 fake photo for show... i hope it resembles that in some way... it would be HELLA COOL!
