Rumour 1: Jaguar doesn't come with OS9 installing CD's???
Rumour 2: the motherboards of the new Powermacs to come wont's support OS9 as an native Apple system. It will only be availble through OS X?
It will remain a stand alone system until we reach 9.4??
Who knows something more about this???

At WWDC Steve buried Mac OS 9 for developers. It's been clear from the beginning that this is a transition from 9 to X. For a certain time, Macs needed to be able to boot OS 9, but it's certainly near that we don't need that any longer - and what's still 9ish can be accomplished in Classic. Even the sound editing applications are - albeit slowly - coming to Carbon now. Apple _needs_ to push OS X, needs to make it VERY clear that "we are now in the age of OS X so please forget about OS 9".

So, yes, OS 9 won't be bootable on new machines at some time point. Whether that's already the case with the next round of PMs, I don't know, but it makes sense _not_ to include OS 9 in Jaguar, since when you're upgrading to Jaguar, you already _DO_ have OS 9 (because it came with the Mac you've bought) and there's no new OS 9 to be delivered, 9.2.2 is the latest version even when Jaguar appears. Maybe there'll be some 'Classic' update sometime, but a new version of OS 9 is just not needed any longer.

and btw, the full version of your signature should read:

"In a world without borders and fences, who needs windows and gates?" :)

Good tip!!
But my question is: do I still have to have 2 partitions for good performance while the "new" OS9 won't be a stand alone system??

I think this may help you out, although im no expert on this.

What fryke said is that there will be no more new OS 9 Releases, or at least, thats what Jobs has said so far.

If your current mac can already boot OS9, just keep it on a separate partition and install Jaguar on another. You should be able to dual boot just like ANY other Version of OS X.

The real "problem" would be if you bought a new mac say 6 months from now, because the rumours are that you cant put OS9 on them and just set that as default boot. So the issue is the new computer's/motherboards.

So for your current mac, you should be just fine dual booting OS9 and OS X/jaguar. But you can also run "classic" inside OS X.

Hope that answers your quandry.
