Running a Java 1.4 applet on Mac?

I have the latest version of Java installed on my Mac. However, I am unable to run a page which has a 1.4 Java applet embedded in it. The applet says it's loading but it never initiates. It works just fine on PC.

When I go to Safari > Help > Installed Plug-ins and scroll down to see the Java plug-in settings the version listed is 1.3.1. I presume this is the problem but I've been unable to discover how to update this.

Any help appreciated.

Run the Software update from the apple menu and it should find the update for the Java version your after. ;)

Cheers,

I have installed the Java 1.4.2 update, so that's not a solution.

Safari seem to be using Java 1.3.1 plugin even though I have installed 1.4.2. Any idea how to uninstall the older version?

You don't uninstall the Java 1.3.1 plug-in. The Java 1.4.2 plug-in works in conjunction with it, not instead of it.

So are you saying that even though I've got Java 1.4.2 installed on my Mac Safari still only uses 1.3.1 for applets?

My OS version = 10.3.9

No. If you were supposed to delete the 1.3 plug-in, the 1.4 installer would have done that. I'm saying that you need Java Plug-in 1.3.1 for 1.3 applets and Java Plug-in 1.4.2 for 1.4 applets.
