Hi, can anybody help me with my Mac(AGP Graphic) G4/ 80GB HD/ 960MB RAM/ OSX 10.4: When I start it up, the only thing I see is grey screen with the apple logo and rotating timer. I bought my Mac month ago. It was running with no problems.

What happened:
-I installed some freeware
-Changed DVD drive
-Upgraded RAM (512 up to 960MB)

When using iDVD applications, it got Kernel panic. After restarting it, only grey background with the apple logo (tiger design) appeared on the screen.

What I tried to do:
Shortcuts:
-Start up + Option (or C) → HD icon → Arrow = grey screen etc.
-Start up + Option + Command +P+R
I used my friend’s installation disc OSX 10.4:
-Start up + Option → HD apple test icon = doesn’t work
-Start up + Option → HD install icon → Arrow → choice of the language → Alert: This software cannot be installed on this computer!
(I only can get into Installer)
In installer:
-Utilities → Disk utility → First Aid → Hard Disk → Verify disk = First Aid failed
There is a note:
keys out of order
The volume Hard Disk needs to be repaired
Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit

1 HFS volume checked
Volume needs repair

Sorry, I am just a very beginner, so it might be a bit confusing.
If the only way is to erase Hard Disk, please give me a info how to do it.
Many thanks to everyone MAC FBU

First, I would remove the RAM you put in. If you still have problems, then it
looks like you should startup in single user mode and repair the hard drive from the command line.

Startup while holding down COMMAND and S keys.

Once you get to the dos-like prompt (#) type "fsck -fy" (without the "").

After it checks the disk, if it says it repaired some problems, you MUST run it again and again until it says there were no problems found. This could take several runs, or just 1 run.

After it says no problems were found, type "reboot" (without the "") and hit enter and it should start up.

If this doesn't do it, look into the DVD drive perhaps causing the problem. I would remove it and see if functionality returns to normal.

First disconnect the IDE cable from the DVD drive and see if you can boot. If you can, see if the DVD drive has jumper settings.

The underlying task reported failure on exit is not good.

You can try using DiskWarrior to repair the drive.

You can try reformatting the drive.

You may have a bad hard drive.

Your friends 10.4 disc probably won't work on your machine if it shipped with his machine from Apple.
