Safari Bookmark Importing Problem

So I installed the entire OS again, it was getting kind of slow, that time of the year, Neptune is in recession. We all know that itch when you just have to re-install everything just for the heck of it.

But this time, something went terrible wrong. I was a good boy and I extracted the bookmarks.plist file from the Safari folder in the Library and backed it up. But now I want to move it back and Safari just keeps replacing it with blank bookmarks plist, the one that Safari has. Is there any way to restore my old bookmarks? I don't have anything else backed up of Safari so was I but half a good boy and have I lost zounds of bookmarks due to laziness?

Thanks in advance,
Frederik-Jan

Did you use the same username (both long and short) as your old installation when you reinstalled everything? If not, my guess would be that the "Bookmarks.plist" file is still owned by your old account, and Safari may be choking on that.

Try adjusting the permissions on the file using the "Get Info" window. Owner should be you, with read & write... Group should be you, with read only... Others should be read only...

Also, you can try letting Safari create a new, blank "Bookmarks.plist" file, then open that file with TextEdit and copy and paste the information from the backed-up .plist file and save (be sure to save in plain-text).
