Safari comes up blank--sometimes

I'm having a very intermittent problem (with maybe 5%-10% of the time, but on the troublesome pages, probably 50+% of the time) where Safari begins loading a page and then spits a blank page back to me. Occasionally, Safari keeps the same page on the screen after clicking a link but it is no longer active (i.e. you can't click on any links or scroll). Clicking the back button keeps the same content on the screen (since it was never cleared) but makes it active again--essentially, it's just refusing to load the new page and instead continues to *display* the old page. Usually going back and clicking the link again repeats the problem; sometimes closing the browser tab and reopening the page in a new tab solves the problem--but sometimes it doesn't. Most of the time, the only way around the problem (i.e. for me to see my accounts or my flights) is to use Firefox or IE 5.2.3 (yes, I still have it--for problems like this).

With such an intermittent problem, it's difficult to assemble any sort of statistics on the problem. However, it seems to mostly happen with secure sites (or at least sites that require authentication to enter)--ones I've noticed having the most issues are Citibank Online and United Airlines' My Itineraries page. I did look at the source for a blank page once, and while I didn't save it, it was not more than 10 lines long and just barely began to describe the page's contents (it may have had the title and not much more).

Because the problem isn't consistent, it's difficult and takes awhile to to try to trace it--I haven't yet done anything like deleted Safari's preferences, cache, etc., as I'd need to use it for several days and see if the problem reappears (and sometimes I can go for a couple days as is and not see the problem). I'm willing to take such steps on the advice of someone here in case it's a known issue.

I'm using OS 10.4.8 with Safari 2.0.4 (419.3). I also have Saft installed.

If and when the problem happens again, I'll be sure to catch the source (maybe even a tcpdump) and post it here. I'll also begin the process of testing by removing things like Saft, the preferences, cache, input managers, etc.
