Safari ctrl-enter equivalent

Ok, I know this seems to have been asked and answered a lot, but I'm looking for an equivalent to Firefox and Windows ctrl-enter on Safari.

Before everybody says "just enter [string] and hit enter to get www.[string].com," it does not work for me. I'm on Time Warner, and their cable modem service chucks me over to a DNS search page.

If I type [string].com, it works fine, I just PREFER not to have to type .com at the end.

ctrl-enter works in Firefox and Chrome in 10.6. I split my browsing between Safari and Chrome so I'm looking for a semi-consistent method.

Thanks everybody!

I NEVER use an ISP DNS server because most ISPs don't even manage their DNS servers anymore. So I started using OpenDNS.com. They have an instructional video to how you can control your own DNS, easily with a free account. I even use DNS shortcuts on my Macs and my Windows 7 machine.
