Safari, Firefox crash when trying to use Gmail or Hulu

This is a relatively new issue but I wonder if it is related to other issues I have, so I'll just list all the issues I'm seeing and hope that someone can either narrow it down to a single cause or maybe help me understand each individual issue. Thanks in advance.

  1. Computer is generally running pretty slow (tried using macjanitor, tech tools and onyx to speed up with no noticeable effect)
  2. On Firefox and Safari I get the spinning wheel of death if I try to use Gmail (google apps with some labs running) or Hulu to watch a video (freezes when it switches to the start of an ad)
  3. On Google Chrome the Gmail window freezes when I hit "Compose"

Based on the last two issues I'm assuming they have a similar cause but I'm not sure if my Mac running generally slow (pretty much on everything) is related.

Specs: MBP, 2.6ghz 4GB DDR2 running 10.5.8

Thanks for any help or suggestions anyone can offer to assist me with my issues. I'm a pretty new Mac user (around 1 year) but an advanced computer user.

Open /System/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ and see what plugins are there. Then open another finder window and open the application /Applications/Utilities/Activity Monitor and then open your favorite browser and go to the offending web site. Then pay attention to Activity Monitor to see what Plug-In is affecting the browser and then close the browser then delete the Plu-In that is affect those sites.

dbrewer,

I am experiencing an identical challenge. Anytime I try to stream video, not just from Hulu, that browser window freezes, as well as gmail. Mother web sites work.

I have cleaned, updated, spent hours on this, and am stumped.

Did you solve the problem?

I suspect that the issue may lie in either java, hulu viewer will give me script errors, or my router, yes the router, a Linksys WRT160 and the settings there.

I found some posts on a gaming site that suggests my issue may be with QoS settings on the router, and the fact that my mac, a mini running 10.5.8, is connected to the router wirelessly.

Would love to hear any input you might have.

thanks!
