Safari is slow.

I've noticed that Safari is pretty slow. Flash movies that take up the whole screen in a browser window usually run at 4 frames per second. Large web pages with lots of graphics run slow. Sites with numerous animated gifs run slow. Also websites with static backgrounds (ie. they don't scroll with the content) are slow too.

I've used other browsers and they're fine, so why is Safari so sluggish?

On the Safari menu, select "Empty Cache" and see if things don't speed up. If that doesn't do it use something like Cocktail, Onyx, or Tiger Cache Cleaner to clean out the user, system, and internet cache files. That usually does the trick.
