Safari 'locks up' when on certain websites

I've had this problem with Safari since I got my Mac Book Pro in August... Basically, certain websites (MySpace mostly) cause Safari to 'lock up' and not do anything. By lock up, I mean it doesn't load the page fully and it won't go any further. The weird thing is that it messes up my internet connection and doesn't seem to respond to anything when it happens.

The other weird thing is that it works fine in Firefox, so I'm having to run Firefox ONLY to use MySpace which gets a bit annoying!

Anyone got any ideas what this could be? I'm clueless!

Thanks :)

Very common issue in Safari. And the reason I stopped using it. I fully recommend Camino. It's Mozilla-based like Firefox, but it blends in with OS X much better than Firefox.

You might want to try PithHelmet, which will block ads and other unwanted content. I find that most of the time Safari hangs, it's because of some overly-flashy ads, usually JavaScript-based, but sometimes using plugins like Flash. Filtering them solves the problem.

I don't know if this will solve your particular problem, though. I don't use MySpace much, and a quick visit there just now turned up no problems with or without filters. Worth a try, though.

Thanks guys! I'll try both those applications out.

Any other suggestions would be much appreciated as I don't really want to move away from Safari.

Thanks alot :)

I've just tried Camino, nice program! But, it doesn't do the one thing I need it to which is remember numerous passwords and usernames for any one website... Is there a way I can set it to do this or can it only remember one username and password per website?

Thanks again!
