Safari Quiting Unexpectedly

This is the first real problem that I have had with my iBook G4.

As soon as I open the application Safari it displays the following in the web address bar: "Go to this address" and then almost immediately closes down. I have tried other sites and the Apple support site and have not been given a solution to this as i cannot even access any of the Safari menus. I am losing hope and do not know where to go from here, it gives me the option of: Close, Report... or Reopen. If i choose Reopen, Safari just repeats the procedure and doesn't give me a chance to even access the menus once again.
I have already tried going into the Library>Preferences>Safari and deleting or moving such files and nothing has worked.

Wondering whether anyone has the solution to this problem or whether there is anywhere i can take it to get this solved?

Many thanks, Harry

Sounds like the preferences have gotten corrupted. Drag ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist to the Desktop, and restart. (In case you don't know, "~" means your home folder.)

This may sound like a good way to mess things up if you've never done this before, but OS X will automatically replace a missing preference file with a file containing the default preferences. You can look online to verify this, or maybe someone else will back me up. I first heard of this from the official Apple support. In any event, I think that's the only way to solve your problem.

If this doesn't fix it, put the file back.
