Safari quits on launch

If I launch Safari, I get the unexpected quit error. Anyone else get this?

This has happen from the beginning, IE I have never been able to use Safari. Thus I don't have the preference file that many say causes this error.

I had a similar problem and through trial and error discovered that getting rid of the preferences file ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist solved the problem. I can also reproduce at least one thing that causes a crash on start-up: changing the preference for "Open Safe files after downloading" to "Upon Successful Download". Change that and Safari won't start after I quit it.

I had the same problem, but fixed it in a
different way. I made a copy of 'Bookmarks.plist'
from ~/Library/Safari, and then trashed the whole ~/Library/Safari folder. On starting up
Safari again it re-instated the ~/Library/Safari
folder. I needed to quite Safari once more to
replace the bookmark file. This cured the
persistent (and rather alarming) quit on
launch issue.

Do you have any third party enhancements installed for Safari?

like PithHelmet?

No. I did so many things to to try and fix this, I'm at a loss here!

- Phase One (with program still installed)
*Fix Permissions.
*Trash prefs. Fix Permissions, Log Out.

- Phase Two -- Reinstall (with 1st program still installed)
*Can't install because installer says I can't, because when I go to select the destination the computer tells me that I can't use the software on the selected volume!
*I made a copy of 'Bookmarks.plist'
from ~/Library/Safari, and then trashed the whole ~/Library/Safari folder.

- Phase Three -- e-mail and post like crazy!

- I'm going to try and run fsck -y and see what happens with the instlation issue.
