Safari - seamless downloads?

The Safari site claims that the browsers has seemless downloads, i.e. that it will not save small files to the desktop and will automatically open files with the appropriate app. Does anyone actually find this to be the case? With windoze media, it saves a 40K file on the desktop which I have to double click to open to get a stream started. When I am downloading a program it saves the .sit and the .dmg and the installer on the desktop. When I am done I have to go back and throw away all the files. It sounds like the opposite of seamless downloads. Does anyone else agree?

You can tell it in the prefs to open file upon finished download. I dislike the feature so i don't have it turned on. However when i did, it mounted drives, unstuffed files, all that jazz.
