safari unable to load/navigate any web pages

I have safar 1.3.1 (v312.3.1)and
mac is x version 10.3.9

recently safari isn't able to connect to the internet via airport, despite having full sets of bars in the airport status icon.
I've tried it at several different coffee shops/wireless connections and it just gives me the message
"safari can't open the page "..." because it can't find the server "..." (elipses mine). I've tried for about three days various websites and have received the same response.

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Try going into Apple Menu --> System Preferences --> Network.
Under location, setup a new location. This essentially just makes a network setup that has just the default settings.
Double check these settings, then apply them, and see if that resolves the issue.
 
What about other browsers?

You might have your gateway settings wrong, or if you're using a proxy you might have missing information.
