will tabbed windows in safari require more cpu/memory or whatever from the computer?? - i kinda feel my machine has slowed down remarkably since i enabled tabbed windows, and stopped using 5-10 different windows..

mostly ppl lose the sense of the mess when they use tabbed browsing. So, if you feel your system is slowing down, I believe it's more like you are not aware you have much more windows opened than before.

Sounds about right - I didnt notice any drop in speed when I started using tabs, but did begin to automatically open whole bookmark folder 'in tabs' every time I launched, and then I'd go and do something for a minute or two - but I was always aware that I was effectively trying to load a dozen web-pages simultaneously.

tabs make it more likely you (or at least I) will be loading more pages at the same time and therefore using more system resources, but it has nothing to do with the tabs themselves, they just make for a more efficient use of desktop space

ok - maybe its just me, it certainly is more "tidy" this way, and more efficient, and i guess you're right about that i load more windows at the same time than before..

thanks anyway.

I noticed the beach ball is around more with tabbed browsing on. But I hate to not use it, as mentioned, it makes things easier to manage.

I think tabbed windows take a smaller toll on the system than multiple windows. After all, Safari only has to load one window and all its attributes into memory with tabbed windows, whereas with multiple windows you could have several different window states to remember, sucking RAM like lemonade on a hot day.

Sometimes I use a mix, where I'll open a new window and open a couple related tabs within it, so I might have one window for email (and any sites I open from that), one window for forum browsing, etc.
