I am using the samba server configuration tool meant for mac 10.2. my problem is how do i set it up so when a windows machine wants to access a certain folder on the mac, they need to input a user id and password? now for the user id and password does that have to be set up on the mac? please help me out. thanks

Look at a file called usernames.map, usually contained within the "lib" directory of the samba tree. In here you can map any local MacOSX name to a Windows username, this can be a guest account. You can also setup samba to use the windows name server to handle the access, that is setup in the smb.conf file. I'll have to look for the proper syntax though.

Ok I found this file:

Isnt there a way i can set this up in the samba server control tool? To make things easier? I just want to be able to have the windows machine have to supply a user name and password for that share the windows machine wants to access, instead of giving guest access.
