Hi All,

Sorry to resurect a dead thread that appeared exactly 3 years ago,
http://macosx.com/tech-support/mac/scanner-software-does-not-load/27779.html

but I'm having the exact same problem.

I am using a 2.0 Ghz Macbook w/10.4.11 w/2 gig RAM, and have a Samsung multifunction printer/fax/copier/scanner, model SCX4725FN. I've used it for all except the scanner part for over a year, and am very happy with the other funtions, missing only the scanner.

Today, I found a site called "Open Drivers" with a scanner driver install file called

"Samsung SCX-4725F/SCX-4725FN Scan Driver 2.00.73 Mac OS 10.3-10.5" (actually, the zip file that was downloaded is called "20080202094028250_SCX-4725_OS_X_Scanner.zip but that unzips to a folder called MAC_Installer, containing another folder called MAC_Twain, and that folder has the the installer and a resource folder called "SamsungSCX-4725Series.ds"

So I unzipped it, and ran the installer called "Samsung ScanThru Installer"

This did install something, but I'll be damned if I can find what. There are no new files on my mac, nothing, nada, zip. There is nothing I can find that is changed by the install at all, and I'm at a standstill.

Can anyone shed some light on this? or help me out?

The driver appears to be a "TWAIN" driver -- which simply installs a TWAIN-compliant driver that can be used in TWAIN-compliant programs.

TWAIN itself is not a program -- when you install a TWAIN driver, you must then launch and use a TWAIN-compliant program in order to use the driver you installed... one such program is PhotoShop (look under File > Import). Acrobat also supports TWAIN drivers to a degree.

Usually a TWAIN driver install does not include a TWAIN-compliant program alongside the install -- the TWAIN-compliant application is your responsibility to obtain.
