I woke up this morning, sick, I might add, to find this!
Am I totally screwed, or is this fixable?

WHOA!! The screen shot does NOT show the ½ inch wide stripe from top to bottom! Weird!

I keep a rule that whenever it does not behave, do a restart.

Do you know where those documents and folders normal belong?

I had the screen of one of my MacBooks changed by Apple a few years ago (I mean full lid change).

Just got back from the Apple Store
the screen is shot! They want $850 to replace the screen with only 30 days warranty. I bit the bullet and bought a new MBP 16” M4.
i suppose I can justify that by saying it’s only 3 times the repair!
No trade in value for the 26” M1 MBP

Thanks all for letting me vent!

Was it $850?
I had a 3rd party computer repair do a new screen on 17” MBP, and I’m thinking around $500 way back when! It had the dreaded ‘theater lights along the bottom.

It would have been 600 CHF, but I had it for free.
 
Update:

My son & daughter-in-law subscribe to an insurance plan for all electronics they own.
He offered to submit my bad screen 2021 16" MBP M1 to get fixed. They charged for the new screen.
Repaired, but wouldn't "play nice" with a Mac, so they have now sent it to Apple to replace screen. (Yay!!!)
No extra charge, but will be a week, or so, to get it back.

Dilemma: Keep it for a backup, sell it, donate it. It is totally wiped with just an operating system just like brand new.
No one of my family or friends want it.

Before I list it on Facebook Marketplace, anyone here want to make an offer?
(2021 16" M1 Pro, MBP 512 HD, 16 Gig RAM, USB C charger, supports latest MacOS)

As Apple actually repaired it, I'm sure they went over the entire unit.

The cheapest on eBay is $850, with most in the $900's
