Screen Saver Slideshows stopped working

Greetings,

In the "Desktop & Screen Saver" pref panel, when I select "Beach," "Forest," anything other than "Computer Name," I get an error message:

The selected folder contains no pictures

Yet when I look in System/Library/Screen Savers, there they all are: Beach.slidesaver, Forest.slidesaver, etc. And when I examine the contents of each one, all of the JPEGs are there.

I also look at the file called "com.apple.screensaver.XXXXXXXXXXXX.plist," and it appears to be pointing to the right place.

Any idea what's gone wrong here, and how I can fix it??

Try trashing the pref file. Empty the trash and then set up your selections. Even though the pref file may be correct, it could be corrupt and just not working.

Would that be the "com.apple.screensaver.XXXXXXXXXXXX.plist" file? If so, I already trashed it, and allowed the computer to create a new one. Still no dice.

Any other thoughts most welcome.

Have you repaired the hard drive? Use the OS X CD to start up the computer, instead of clicking on the installer screen - go to the Installer menu and select Disk Utility.

Or start up in Single User mode and do an fsck command.
