Screensaver?

Recycle Me!
i'm running 10.1 on my power mac g4, agp, 500mhz, with 256mb of ram. all the latest software and what not. problem is, i can't change screensaver prefs - type, timeout, password, and fade now corners. I do adjust them, but as soon as i quit prefs, everything reverts to the default. It seems nothing i do "takes." I've tried all the regular stuff - disk first aid, zaping pram, went so far as to hit the CUDA button - everything, and nothing seems to change it. It used to work, then my comp got wiped - i reinstalled 10, and it didn't work - and still doesn't work even after the 10.1 update. Any advice?

come on guys, can't anyone help me? i'm now stuck in 9.2 cuz i need some method of keeping my freakshow of a roommate from looking at porn on my computer. heeeelp!

Well, the screen saver configuration is saved in ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.screensaver.<somehexdigits>.plist; so is this file writable by you, does it exist at all after changing stuff, does the ByHost directory exist?

The ByHost directory is there, but nothing is in it... no sign of any activity regardless of what i do in the screensaver panel... any ideas?

Thx

Well you were right on target. I made a new user and all, and now it works fine... although now for some reason i can no longer use the font "Arial" - whenever i try to type in it or go to a website that uses it (which is pretty many) - i get all the little boxes and stuff... odd... oh well....

Thanks for the help!
