Screwed by MacSales/OtherWorldComputing & Apple?

Hi. Moderator: I hope this is the correct forum. I am seeking advice on what to do about a tech service problem....

I sent my MacBook Pro to Apple when programs started to crash. They blamed it on a bad 1 GB upgrade chip from OtherWorldComputer/MacSales. Sent the chip into OWC/Macsales and they refused to replace it or reimburse because (a) Apple repairs removed a label on the chip and (b) the chip tested out okay. And they refuse to return it.

So do people recommend I go to Apple and complain about removing a label or sticker from the chip. Or should I go back to OWC and complain about this? So far they have not returned my email.

Any advice appreciated. In the meantime, I would recommend people reread the Returns policy on memory. Or stay away from OtherWorldComputer/Macsales.

Other World Computing is protecting themselves from someone abusing their return policy. With the label removed when you returned it they had no way of seeing if it was a scam or something along that line. You best bet is to call OWC (815-338-8685 M-F (9a-4pm EST)) and ask to speak with a "supervisor" in customer support, but be very civil about it. It is important you don't get upset but be firm in a calm way. Calmly tell you story (in a phone call) and almost beg for a REPLACEMENT SWAP. Remember to get a RA from their customer support..

I would bet the value of the RAM that Apple would replace it for free, seeing you asked nicely and explained civily that it was their fault taking the sticker off of the chip.
