Screwy icon changing?

Im new to macs, about a day old, and I'm tryin to change the icon on some of my folders. I made a folder on the desk top and downloaded some icons. and i found out that you just copy the icon from info, to the info of the folder. So that worked fine. But i wanted to change the folders icon to a different one and when i copy a new icon and past it, not matter what, its the old icon. So i have the default folder icon, and some icon i didn't want after i put iton there. And i can't switch it between those two. Is that the "finder icon bug" or am i doin somethin wrong?

Okay, here's what you should do.

First, make a new folder in your drive's window, not the Desktop, as the Desktop is really a folder within your User folder and it changes from one user to the next and all that. You may have permission problems or something from the desktop which you won't at the root level of your hard drive.

Second, here's how you copy an icon, guaranteed. Push Cmd (open Apple)-Option-I to open the Inspector. Now, click on the file with the icon you want. In the Inspector, click on the icon at the top and push Cmd-C (Copy). Click on the folder you want to have the icon. In the Inspector, click on the folder and push Cmd-V (Paste). You really shouldn't have problems with this; I don't know why you might be.

Ahh thanks Arden, thats seems to be working, plus there was already a thread with my problem on it so i looked over at that and it said sometimes you need to relaunch finder. But it didn't tell me how to change icons like you did, so now i've got all the tools to change my icons=)

Awesome!

Are you going to make any custom icons yourself? There are many applications to do this... ask and I'll name a few (if I can get into my iMac, that is!).
