.SEA in OS X: how can I expand this???

Nachohat

je suis donc je pense
I just downloaded the drivers for my Epson Stylus Color 900. The only problem is that the driver is in a self extracting archive format. Stuffit doesn't seem to support this, how can I open it? I don't have access to Mac OS 9.

Thanks

Try dragging the .SEA icon over top of the Stuffit Expander icon while holding down Command and Option. It will tell the program to open the file regardless of what the Finder knows about handled file types. That's your best bet. If that doesn't work, just complain to Epson until they fix this trivial little compatibility problem. How much effort does it take to recompress an archive and ftp it into place?

Self-extracting archives can be expanded by Stuffit Expander in OS X. The only problem is that when you double-click them, they will launch the Classic environment and attempt to use their built-in extracting capabilities -- I want to be able to change all .sea file mapping so that Stuffit Expander is the application that expands them.

Allowing the Classic Environment to launch and then having the archives self-extract will work, but it's a pain in the butt because Classic must take its sweet time to launch and then the .sea application must take its sweet time to extract the files, something that the native version of Stuffit Expander for OS X can do much faster.

If you want to make all files with a particular extension open with a given application, just find one of the files in question, hit Command-I on it, choose "Open with application" from the combo box, pick an application, and hit "Change All..."

No, that doesn't work. .sea archives are actually applications, so you can't select an application to open them. This technique only works with documents.

Ah yes, I hadn't thought of that problem. Perhaps if the type code were set to TEXT, then it might work... I don't have any SEAs to test this with, though.

That fixed my problem. Thanx, you well deserve your titles of Lincensed Computer Geek and Unofficial Mac Genius! :D

I actually just changed my signature not more than a couple of weeks ago. I was getting bored with the one simply listing my computer specs, plus I can't remember the last time it actually aided in troubleshooting, as was the original intent. Maybe I'll just keep adding lines to it over time until it's about a page in length. He he.
