Search for new posts

I was wondering -- how are the posts determined to be new in the "Search for new posts"?

I thought it was the most recent unread ones, but that's not the case, since I get a lot that are marked as read (correctly). I thought it might be the last X number of hours, but that's not right, since I checked a half hour ago and had 25 or so posts, now there are only 3. I know that a number of those 25 posts were posted to within the last half hour...

Is it perhaps an absolute time? For example, new posts since 3 p.m. PST?

I think that the server keeps track of the last page request that you make by associating it with your userid for this forum.

Then any posts made after that last page request are considered new.

Which would make sense if I didn't get the same threads when I perform another search.

Let me revive this thread from the grave....

I'm still wondering how the "new posts" are determined. This morning I posted about Speed Download, and ten minutes later came back to the site and searched for new posts. My post was not listed. But I think a ten-minute-old post would qualify as new...
